Monitoring Uncertainty
Here’s what you should know:
Optimism about family finances is trending upwards
Looking to the year ahead, more than a third of Canadians are feeling optimistic about their family’s finances. Although it remains a very small percentage, the number of Canadians who think we are about to enter an economic boom is highest since tracking began, while the number of Canadians who think we are about to enter a recession continues to decline.
Grocery prices still top of mind
Since the start of the year, Canadians have observed price increases in many categories, most notably groceries, gas, and general household items. Not surprisingly, Canadians are most likely to switch brands in the grocery category in order to save money.
More Canadians seeking new employment
Over the past four months, there has been a notable increase in the number of employed Canadians actively looking for a new job, with one in five currently seeking new employment. The same percentage of Canadians are also currently involved in a side business that they own, with likelihood to setup their own business holding steady with November of 2023.
